چکیده:

Porosity is an important factor in reservoir engineering calculations. Different methods are presented to measure this property via experimental procedures and logging approaches which are generallytime and cost consuming. An alternative method would be defined as porosity estimation from thin sections of cores or drilling cuttings. In thisworks, image processing techniques are applied to estimate porosity from thin sections and the results are compared to experimental data.Results show that this method provides accurate porosity predictions if done properly and accurately and can be used as alternative for conventional methods when sampling or logging is not possible because of improper well conditions or economic constraints
